The Eclipse

(A streetlamp, a corner and a space.)

Friend, I pass you waiting in the shadows
looking ahead as if I do not see you.
But you are not deceived
and I am not deceived either.

(A streetlamp, a corner, and a space.)

Friend, you pass me waiting in the shadows
I look beyond, as if seeing through a ghost.
I smile faintly, but that is false;
you do not smile, and that is just as false.

(A streetlamp, a corner, and a space.)

The steps, the breathing pass into the dark
too abrupt and frozen for a sound to break.
A harsh circle fixes the ground,
light beating in an empty time.

(A streetlamp, a corner, and a space.)
